The buffer zone walk is a nature walk that you will take through a buffer zone that is a transition zone between Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the cultivated areas, where the people live.
Buffer Zone Walk – 2 to 3 hours
A buffer zone is a transition zone between Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the cultivated areas where the people live. Nowadays a lot of tea is grown in the buffer zone. Because gorillas do not like tea, they therefore always go back into the forest instead of eating whatever they can find in the farmers’ gardens. This walk is great for birding in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and learning about the rural farming communities around.
Trek to the top of the world – 2 to 3 hours
When you take on a short walk from Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge, you will stroll through Nkuringo Village and take some small foot paths to the top of the world. There, you will find beautiful views overlooking the surrounding mountains, valleys and ridges. As a result, this is a great way to stretch your legs after an amazing gorilla tracking safari.
The experience is better and more beautiful in the evening when the sun is setting.
More About Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is found in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley. That’s about 530km from Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is famous for gorilla trekking safaris, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, occupying over 331 sqkm. The park is also famous for its rare species which include mountain gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei).
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park also protects an estimated 400 mountain gorillas, that’s roughly half of the world’s population. This is because of the several habituated gorilla families such as the Oruzogo gorilla family, which can be tracked.
