There are different waterfalls in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which are visually pleasing to all visitors on a nature walking safari. Some waterfalls are within while others are outside the Park.
The waterfalls hike is an enticing activity that is embarked on in company of an informative guide who takes you up and down the hike. Along the way, your eyes will be filled with different attractions including bird species, butterflies, primates like monkeys, and verdant vegetation. If you are lucky enough, you may also spot some wild mammals, streams, and rivers flowing through the forest floor.

Waterfalls in Bwindi are worth watching and many can be spotted of different waterfall trails. Some of these include the following:-
Munyaga River Falls
This guided trail will take you along the scenic Bizenga Creek which joins the Munyaga River, starting out from Buhoma section. Munyaga river falls is an excellent waterfall trail that bird lovers enjoy most because of the different bird species, verdant vegetation, and streams of the river. The trail hike can last between two to three hours to and from, depending on the pace of the guests.
Ivy River Trail
The Ivy river trail follows an old road through the forest. This is a full day’s hike with an elevation gain, making it a simply most fabulous experience. Many guests have taken this trail after their gorilla tracking tour in Buhoma, and thereafter reaching the Nkuringo section.
The Ivy river trail is a very scenic route with viewpoints along the way, monkeys, bush pigs, butterflies, birds, and residents on their way or coming from the market.
This trail can also be taken from Nkuringo to Buhoma. So, you can begin probably from Buhoma and hike to Nkuringo, for an overnight stay. Then track mountain gorillas the next day and on the following day continue to Lake Mutanda and the town of Kisoro. The trek takes 7-8 hours.
Kashasha River Trail:
This trail lasts 4 to 5 hours, and once again you see the ancient rainforest up close. The trail involves steeper inclines, especially if you take the Buhoma to Nkuringo route. It is about 600 meters up at the end of the trail, so your guides will point out the wildlife, birds, plants, flowers, ferns, and tree species you will find.
The views along this trail are most stunning. Amazingly it is much shorter taking the Kashasha River Trail from Buhoma to Nkuringo which is 5 to 6 hours in length. The start of this hike is either Buhoma or Nkuringo areas of the Park. Some claim that the trail is more scenic when started from Buhoma and ended in Nkuringo.
Best time to go for waterfalls hike in Bwindi
The waterfalls hike can be conducted at any time of the year but the dry seasons are preferable because the hiking trails are less muddy and slippery. The dry seasons are usually during the months of December to February, then June to mid-September. However, numerous bird species can be spotted during the wet seasons.
What to carry for the waterfalls trail in Bwindi
Important requirements for the waterfall trail hike are a rain jacket, backpack, at least 2 liters of water, a camera, binoculars, snacks, and a walking stick. Also, make sure to have a long-sleeved shirt, long trousers, good hiking boots, high cotton socks, and a hat.
