The Muyunga river trail that takes you to the Bizenga River lasts about half an hour, which makes it the shortest trail found in the park. Most of the visitors enjoy this trail at their own pace in the absence of a guide.

During dry seasons, the Muyunga river trail tends to be dry and less slippery because there is no mud, which makes it easier for most travelers. The most sought animals here include primates and forest birds.

There are also other trails you can encounter while on your visit to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. These include the Waterfall Trail, Mazubijiro Loop Trail, Rushara Hill Trail, and Ivo River Walk – commonly known as the longest trail with approximately 8 hours.

More About Bizenga River and Buhoma Sector

Bizenga river is found in the Buhoma region, which is the closest sector to Queen Elizabeth National Park in just an approximately 3 hour’s drive. It is therefore close to the southern Ishasha sector popularly known for tree-climbing lions.

The Buhoma sector is located in the northwestern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, in Kanungu district. That’s approximately 540 km from Kampala and about 8 hour’s drive from Kampala to Buhoma.

This was the first section to be opened up for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. So, it’s where gorilla tourism started, and thus the most famous gorilla trekking sector in Uganda.

The Buhoma region hosts the oldest habituated gorilla family known as the Mubare gorilla family. As a result, it was the first family to be visited by the first team of tourists to visit Bwindi for gorilla habituation safaris.
